The Challenge

The Museum of Modern Art approached us with a unique challenge: create an interactive installation that would bridge the gap between traditional art and digital technology. The installation needed to be accessible to visitors of all ages while providing a deeply engaging and educational experience.

The space was a 500-square-foot gallery with high ceilings and natural light, requiring us to design a solution that would work harmoniously with the existing architecture while creating a completely new sensory experience.

Our Solution

We developed "Echoes of Light," an interactive installation that responds to visitor movement and creates a dynamic visual and auditory experience. The installation consists of multiple sensor arrays, projection mapping, and spatial audio systems that work together to create an ever-changing environment.

Key Innovation

Our breakthrough was developing a proprietary motion tracking system that could detect subtle movements and translate them into complex visual patterns in real-time, creating a truly responsive and personalized experience for each visitor.

The installation features 12 high-resolution projectors that create a 360-degree immersive environment, while 24 speakers provide spatial audio that follows visitors as they move through the space. The entire system is controlled by custom software that processes data from 48 motion sensors in real-time.

The Process

Our development process began with extensive research into visitor behavior patterns and museum engagement strategies. We conducted user interviews and created multiple prototypes to test different interaction models.

The technical development involved creating custom motion tracking algorithms, developing the projection mapping system, and building the spatial audio engine. We worked closely with museum staff to ensure the installation would integrate seamlessly with their existing systems and visitor flow.

Testing and iteration were crucial throughout the process. We conducted multiple user testing sessions with different age groups to refine the interaction design and ensure accessibility for all visitors.
